HyperOS 3 Brings Speed Gains — But Emulator Users Face Mixed Results
Xiaomi has begun distributing HyperOS 3, its newest custom Android interface built on Android 16, promising noticeable improvements in system efficiency, animation fluidity, and responsiveness across smartphones and tablets. On the surface, the update delivers exactly what Xiaomi claims—lighter system behavior and a more refined everyday experience.
For most users, the upgrade has been positive. Reports suggest quicker app launches, improved multitasking, and fewer slowdowns during regular use compared to earlier HyperOS releases.
However, not everyone is benefiting equally from the update.
Emulator Performance Raises Concerns on Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro
Soon after HyperOS 3 reached users, members of Android emulation communities began reporting unexpected performance issues—particularly on the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro. Posts shared on forums such as r/EmulationOnAndroid describe unstable visuals, screen flickering, and reduced performance when running emulators that previously worked without issue.
While the Pad 6S Pro appears to be the most frequently mentioned device, similar feedback has surfaced from users of other Xiaomi models. This suggests the problem may be related to broader system-level or graphics changes rather than a single tablet.
Not a Universal Problem
Importantly, the issue does not affect all users. Some report that emulated games and applications continue to function normally under HyperOS 3. This inconsistency points to potential differences in GPU behavior, driver compatibility, or specific hardware configurations rather than a widespread failure of the update itself.
Temporary Workarounds and Their Limitations
For users experiencing graphical issues, a workaround has surfaced within the community. Installing the Turnip GPU driver version 25.3.0 (Revision 5) has helped reduce visual glitches in certain cases. However, this solution has its own limitations.
Turnip drivers currently lack compatibility with devices using Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon flagship processors, including Snapdragon 8 Elite–class chips. As a result, many newer Xiaomi phones and tablets cannot benefit from this workaround.
A Trade-Off to Consider
Overall, HyperOS 3 delivers meaningful improvements for general system performance, but emulator users may encounter compromises. Those who rely heavily on Android emulation—especially for gaming—may want to delay updating or research feedback specific to their device model before installing the new version.
Future software patches could resolve these issues, but for now, HyperOS 3’s effect on emulation remains inconsistent.
